A self-drive audio guide for the day trip from Melbourne: Geelong, the surf coast, Lorne and the Otways, the Twelve Apostles and the Shipwreck Coast to the Bay of Islands, then home inland. There is no fixed route — the story of each place starts by itself as you reach it, and on the long stretches between places the podcast keeps you company.
⚠️ Keep left, and stop only where it is safe. The road is narrow and winding; pull over only in the signed bays, and never stop or park on a bend.
📍 How it works
Allow location access. The guide needs GPS to know which place you are passing.
Press Start Audio Tour before you pull out. The phone can stay in its cradle; the audio plays through the car speakers over Bluetooth.
Navigate on any card opens Google Maps with directions to that place. The guide keeps talking while Google leads the way — mute Google’s voice if you like.
☰ What to hear: tick the kinds of places you want stories about — lookouts and lighthouses, beaches, rainforest, wildlife, history, food and more.
▶ Listen plays any story by hand.
ℹ️ Good to know
A long day. Melbourne to the Bay of Islands along the coast is about 470 km with the side trips; the way home inland through Colac takes about three hours.
Mobile coverage drops in the Otways between Apollo Bay and Princetown. Keep the guide running: it carries on when the signal returns.
Wildlife at dusk. Kangaroos and wallabies cross without warning, and koalas sit low over Lighthouse Road at Cape Otway.
🔑 Your link, not your phone. The access link works on one device at a time — whichever opened it last.
🔴 Red R, next to day/night: resets which places you have already heard, so the whole guide plays again from the start — for another day or a second trip. Works in the full version.
