Privacy Policy
This policy covers the website selfguideapp.com and the Android application Self Guide App. Both are operated by Antratel Pty Limited (ABN 24 122 328 492), Unit 13, 28 Crystal Street, Waterloo NSW 2017, Australia — “we”, “us”.
The short version. The guide needs to know where you are, because that is the only way it can start the right story at the right place. Your position is used for that and written into a technical log we use to fix the guide. We do not sell it, we do not advertise on it, and we do not build a profile of you. There is no account and no password: what you buy is a link.
1. What we collect
Your location. While a tour is running, the app or the browser reads your position, direction of travel and speed from the device. This happens only after you press Start Audio Tour and grant permission, and it stops when you press Stop. In the Android app the reading continues while the screen is off — that is the reason the app exists — and it is shown by a permanent notice in your status bar for as long as it does.
Tour logs. To find out why a guide spoke too late, too early or not at all, the guide writes a technical log of the tour: coordinates, heading, speed, which point was triggered and which audio file played. These logs are how the faults our customers report actually get fixed.
Your access link. Access is a token in a link, not an account. We store that token, the dates it is valid for, and a technical fingerprint of the device that used it last — because one link plays on one device at a time.
Your progress. Which places you have already heard and where you stopped in the podcast, stored against your token so the tour survives closing the app or changing phone.
Your email address, if you buy access — that is where the link is sent.
Ordinary web records. Our server and our content network keep the usual request records: IP address, browser, time, page. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies and without tracking people between sites.
We do not collect your name, your contacts, your photos, your files, your microphone or your camera. The app asks for exactly two permissions: location, and permission to show a notification.
2. Why we collect it
- Location — to decide which place you are passing, which way you are facing, and therefore what to play and when.
- Tour logs — to diagnose and fix the guide.
- Token and device fingerprint — to give you what you paid for and to stop one link being shared across many phones at once.
- Progress — so the guide does not repeat what you have already heard.
- Email — to deliver your access link and answer you if something goes wrong.
We do not use any of it for advertising, we do not sell or rent it, and we do not pass it to data brokers.
3. Payments
Payments are taken by Square. Card details are entered on Square’s own page and never reach us — we receive only the confirmation that a payment succeeded and the email address attached to it. Square’s handling of your data is governed by its own privacy policy.
4. Who else sees the data
- Square — payment processing.
- Cloudflare — content delivery and traffic protection for our domains.
- SmarterASP.NET — the hosting company whose servers run the site.
That is the whole list. Nobody else receives it, and we disclose it otherwise only if the law requires it.
5. How long we keep it
- Tour logs — 30 days, then deleted automatically. This is not a policy we remember to apply: the server deletes them on its own.
- The record of a tour (when it started and finished, where it started, which access link was used) — kept with the purchase record, so a customer who writes in months later can be identified and helped.
- Access tokens and progress — the longest access we sell lasts 30 days, and the token and your progress live for that period.
- Purchase records — as long as Australian tax law requires us to keep them.
6. Deleting your data
Write to [email protected] from the address you bought with, or quote your access link, and we will delete your token, your progress and your tour logs. We do this within 30 days and confirm it by email. Deleting an active token ends the access it carries, so tell us if you want to wait until it expires.
On the phone itself, uninstalling the app removes everything it stored locally.
7. Children
The guide is written for adult travellers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect anything from them.
8. Your rights
We handle personal information under the Australian Privacy Principles of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). You may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — write to [email protected]. If our answer does not satisfy you, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
9. Security
The site and the app talk to our servers over HTTPS only. Access tokens are random and unguessable. We keep no card details, and no passwords, because there are no accounts to have passwords for.
10. Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be announced on this page.
